The switch to solid shampoo is no longer just a fad, it’s a veritable revolution in our bathrooms. Whether for health, ecology or the wallet, there are many reasons for this change.
At Les Paillettes Verteswe’ve delved into history and science to understand why this change is, in fact, great news for your hair.
A short history of cleanliness
Did you know that liquid shampoo as we know it is a very recent invention? Until the early 20th century, solid soaps based on vegetable oils were used. The first liquid shampoo didn’t appear until 1927. [Source: Schwarzkopf International].
Why have we changed? For the marketing and apparent convenience of plastic. But along the way, we’ve swapped natural ingredients for synthetic “detergents”. By switching back to solids, you’re not just following a trend: you’re reconnecting with millennia of artisan know-how.

The liquid mirage: What your bottle isn’t telling you
Most conventional shampoos are 80% water. So you’re paying for water transport and a plastic container that will end up polluting our soil. .
Scientifically, to keep this water fresh, manufacturers have to add preservatives (parabens) and aggressive foaming agents (sulfates). These strip away the natural sebum, forcing your scalp to produce even more oil to protect itself. It’s a vicious circle.
The comparison is indisputable:
- Classic Shampoo: Water + Plastic + Sulfates + Silicones (which suffocate the hair).
- Our Solid Shampoo: A pure concentrate of active ingredients. No unnecessary water, no plastic, just ingredients that work for you.
Nature’s science in your hand
In our laboratory in Lausanne, we have formulated our pebbles as genuine high-quality care products.

Take our Lavender & Tea Tree Shampoo.
Tea Tree is not there by chance: studies show its powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties. It’s a “precision cleanser” that regulates sebum without aggressing. Add to this Shea butter for softness, and you’ve got hair that finally breathes, nourished and protected right from the roots.
“My hair is weird!” The secret of transition
This is where my personal experience comes in. During my first week of transition, my hair looked… different. Almost “sticky”.
It’s perfectly normal! Your hair is detoxing. It’s getting rid of years of silicone.
- My pro tip: Rinse with cider vinegar. It’s magic for restoring pH and instant shine.
- Brushing: Brush your hair twice a day to distribute your natural oils – it’s the best free treatment in the world.

Why are we doing this?
At Les Paillettes Vertes, every product is designed to protect our environment and our families. Our shampoos are 100% natural, handmade in Lausanne, vegan and cruelty-free.
Going solid means choosing a product that lasts longer, won’t leak in your suitcase, and respects the complex balance of your scalp.
