Homemade vanilla sugar!

While preparing our upcoming chocolate workshop, we discovered that there was a simple way to make homemade vanilla sugarIt’s super-easy, economical, flavourful and waste-free!

For sweet-tooths like us, when there are alternatives to the over-packaged sugar sachets found in supermarkets, neatly encased in their little cellophane-wrapped envelopes, we’re all ears!

Of course, vanilla sugar can be replaced by fresh vanilla beans, or even vanilla powder, which can be found in small glass jars.

But when we discovered this recipe for home-made vanilla sugar, we had to try it out! And the result is amazing. See for yourself!

Here’s how to make your own vanilla sugar

Simply use 2 vanilla beans for 200g of sugar, preferably brown and organic.

Put the pods directly into a jar with the sugar and forget about it for 1-2 weeks. Yes, forget it! The longer you wait, the more fragrant your sugar will be.

You can also split the pods and put only the seeds directly into the sugar.

Once you think your sugar is fragrant enough, remove the pods, but don’t throw them away just yet – they still have potential!

Infuse them in your tea, milk or hot chocolate, in syrup or when cooking jams or compotes!

Or leave to air-dry, then grind to obtain vanilla powder for flavouring your pastries.

To your jars! A small step in your kitchen, but one that’s sure to please 🙂
